Many congratulations to Daniel Bowman, for his winning essay “Coach Dog to Automobile Dog: Canines in Literature and Car Culture.”
The essay explores the nonhuman animals at the heart of the transition from horse-drawn carriage to automobile, for whom the arrival of the motorcar marked displacement rather than progress. Scholars of animal studies and the history of technology will be particularly interested in this fascinating piece of research.
It can be read in the latest issue of the JLS!
