Ahead of the 2026 annual conference in Strathclyde, we are seeking expressions of interest and nominations for two positions on the executive committee: Treasurer and Book Reviews Editor.
The Treasurer role must be held by a member living in the UK so that they can become signatory to the society’s bank account. Ideally, we would like this role to be held by a member with a permanent position or one that will outlast the member’s term, the better to enable continuity. The treasurer manages the BSLS’s accounts, makes payments and refunds, receives bank statements, and presents a report on the society’s finances at the annual general meeting at the conference each April. The peak of annual activity is between January and April, when membership fees (and inquiries about membership fees) come in ahead of the conference. For more information about the Treasurer role, please contact our current Treasurer, Laura Ludtke, here: lludtke@gmail.com.
The Book Reviews Editor role is open to any BSLS member, and involves soliciting reviews for the BSLS website, ensuring reviewers receive the book in question, and editing and posting the reviews when they come in. For more information about this role, please get in touch with our current Book reviews editor, Sharon Ruston, at s.ruston@lancaster.ac.uk.
Committee members serve a three-year term and typically the entire executive committee meets twice per year, once in September (online) and once ahead of the Annual General Meeting at the conference in April. To stand for election, BSLS members must be nominated by two fellow members in good standing by email to Barri Gold (Chair) at execbsls@gmail.com and Adele Guyton (Secretary) at adele.guyton@kuleuven.be. Feel free to contact Barri and Adele with general questions as well.
Please consider helping us keep the BSLS running smoothly! We look forward to hearing from you.
With best wishes,
The BSLS Executive Committee
