We invite proposals for critical studies exploring the pivotal role of secrecy in literature and culture, with interdisciplinary, international and transhistorical scope.

The ‘secret’ is a concept of pivotal importance across a range of disciplines – from political studies of espionage and the ethics of intelligence work to law, psychoanalysis, philosophy, and literary and cultural studies – inflected by diverse cultural and historical contexts, and in terms of gender, sexuality, race and class. Secrecy in Literature and Culture will provide an arena which brings this rich and multifaceted area of inquiry into focus as a vital transhistorical and interdisciplinary field, in which readers will encounter innovative studies with a shared interest in the notion of the secret in literature and culture. We invite studies that illuminate the ways in which a fascination with secrecy has flourished in literature and other art forms.
